Today we’re shooting this video from my family’s property and so I thought it was a great opportunity to talk about some of the tricks that we use to help save money when we’re traveling.

Pack Your Lunches

One is whenever we’re doing a road trip somewhere instead of always stopping at a restaurant for lunches or snacks or even dinners, if you can stop before dark, is pack lunches and stop at a roadside park. You can save yourself a decent amount of money, especially if you’re going pretty far.

Barter with a Friend/Family Member

Another way is to consider bartering with somebody that you know has property, whether they rent it out or just use it personally. Maybe you have a trade, and they need services that you can offer, or you can pick up trash or mow the lawn whatever it might be to work a deal with them.

Pick a Travel Buddy/Family

The last trick is if you have friends you enjoy traveling with consider going in with multiple families to help share the cost, so your dollars are not stretched so thin.

Save For the Vacation FIRST

And lastly, just remember that you need to set aside money prior to that vacation. If you know you like to spend $2,000 or $3000 a year, then on a monthly basis set aside what you need as part of your regular spending so then it’s already built-in and you’re just tapping into that bucket, rather than once a year using credit to spend $2,000 or $3000 and then paying it off. So, flip your direction and how you do that and prepare for that $2,000 to $3000, or $5,000 whatever it is, and then it’s a lot simpler and a little less burdensome when you go, and you can enjoy your trip a little bit.

These are just a couple of tricks and tips on how to vacation on a budget. We look forward to helping you out in any way that we can. If you have any questions or need any help with budgeting, we do have a special package that is specific to that, we’d love to share more about it with you if you’re interested. Give us a call at 832-856-2825, this is Next Step Financial Transitions. Thank You!
